Meal Planning: Imitation Game

Imitation, Part 1:

My friend Maria has a fashion blog called Golden Zipper, where she encourages people to “know your wardrobe.” Know where your clothes came from, how they were made, and how it contributes to your own self-expression.

With that in mind, I wanted to start an experiment in knowing my kitchen.

Imitation, Part 2:

My kitchen is embarrassingly sparse. It sometimes looks like a college apartment — beer, condiments, and granola bars. Actually, it just looks that way when my Mom visits, conveniently. And she is sometimes this mom.

So, I decided to do something about it – to get some groceries and know my kitchen. I visited my friend, Arielle, in San Francisco this weekend. She made me dinner when I was drained from traveling – salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, green beans and wine, and provided yogurt and fruit for breakfast.

So in an effort to be more of a real adult, I made dinner tonight, and got yogurt and fruit for breakfast. Yep, strong imitation game! Here’s how it turned out.

Groceries for dinner and breakfast
Vegetables prepared and ready for the oven
Composting! Because that’s a thing at my house, and in SF.
Finished product

And also the trip was wonderful!

This is my Aunt Lydia

My Great Aunt Lydia was a beautiful, classy lady, and I remember her exactly as she is in this picture.

Aunt Lydia died last week, and here is her obituary. Her husband, Bill, was the the last sibling in the generation of my Granny Martha, his oldest sister and my grandpa’s mother, the woman we all trace back to.

I’m glad my mom reminded me to go to the visitation tomorrow night. I never got to experience her wonderful voice, but I do remember her smile and her encouragement when I told her I wanted to be a writer. Rest in peace, Lydia.
